Abstract
In this article, the author reflects on the exclamation of the Liberator Simón Bolívar — "We will never be blissful, never!..." — regarding the divisions among the nations of the region, an idea projected onto the present context by Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano. In the face of the disintegrating and unscrupulous actions of multinational corporations and "market power brokers," driven solely by profit maximization, the author calls for unity around the defense of our wealth in order to fight poverty, backwardness, and disintegration. He closes his reflection with a note on peace as the result of profound social transformations.
