Abstract
Driven by the accelerated deforestation process that has long prevailed in Antioquia, if this trend continues in central Antioquia, most of the 10 remaining forest ecosystem types — which conserve much of the region's biological diversity — will be irreversibly lost within less than 25 years. Solving this problem demands a very serious commitment to regional equity, social justice, the democratization of knowledge, technological application, forest governance, territorial governability, and the full participation of local communities in the conservation and sustainable use of natural and cultural heritage.
