Abstract
Written by a sanitary engineer, former president of ACODAL's Northwest Chapter, this article presents a diagnosis of the problem of construction and demolition waste generation and management in the Aburrá Valley, prompted by catastrophic events in 2008. The author documents that the region generates between 8,000 and 10,000 tons of waste daily, and describes the situation of waste dumps, of which only 11 of 43 identified in 2004 had a license. The text presents the objectives and macro-processes of comprehensive waste management, documenting that 30% of this waste is potentially recoverable.
