Abstract

Written by the biologist director of Fundación Con Vida, this article argues that technological responses to climate change are insufficient unless their structural causes are questioned, noting that its consequences affect social groups unequally depending on their access to resources. The author illustrates this thesis with examples such as Hurricane Katrina, glacier retreat and its impact on water supply, resulting population displacement, and the reproductive boom of insects and pathogens favored by rising temperatures. The text notes the well-established scientific consensus that global warming is caused by human activity, in contrast to the political resistance of leading sectors in the United States and other countries, including Colombia.
