Abstract

Written by three staff members from Corantioquia's Education Office, this article presents agroecology as a pedagogical strategy within the Corporation's environmental education program. The authors argue that agroecology shares with environmental education a holistic vision that requires moving beyond the traditional classroom hierarchy, promoting the autonomy of small and medium-scale farmers. The text develops the formative effects of this approach on participating communities, including strengthened self-esteem and food security, and concludes by presenting Corantioquia's 2007-2019 Regional Environmental Management Plan proposal to create an agroecological school linking various institutions.
