Abstract

This article argues for strengthening urban residential recycling through the organization of informal recyclers. The authors analyze the poverty associated with this activity in Medellín and develop economic assessment methodologies for recycling, estimating significant municipal savings per ton recovered, and call for formalizing recyclers' work.
