Abstract
The functioning of cities and the well-being of their population depend on the supply of ecosystem services from areas both within and outside urban limits, which require proper management to maximize their benefits and reverse the degradation to which they are often subjected. Based on this, a methodology is presented for identifying these services and the strategic ecosystems that provide them, aiming to advance understanding and solutions for the degradation of natural resources within and around Colombian cities, using the Aburrá Valley metropolitan region, centered on Medellín, as a reference.
