The Municipal SIGAM: A Regional Development Strategy

Abstract

Written by the Deputy Secretary of Environmental Planning at Medellín's Secretariat of the Environment, this article presents the municipal administration's environmental management strategy for 2004-2007, structured around information generation, planned territorial intervention, and strengthening community organization. The author describes several relevant projects: comprehensive solid-waste management in the corregimientos, socio-environmental management in the corregimientos, purchase of areas at creek headwaters, strategic ecosystem projects, intervention in the Guardian Hills, and the agroecological resettlement project in Pajarito. The text finally presents SIGAM and PAM as regulatory instruments for coordinating environmental management.
