Abstract

Written by the Manager of Empresas Varias de Medellín, this article presents the history and consolidation process of the La Pradera Sanitary Landfill, located in Donmatías, operating since June 2003 following the closure of the Curva de Rodas Landfill. The author documents the chronology of planning, licensing, and site preparation carried out simultaneously with operations, as well as the technical challenges faced in leachate management, which required an additional investment of nearly $1.79 billion pesos. The text presents operational data: an average daily intake of 2,300 tons, a compensatory contribution to the municipality of Donmatías, and results from the waste treatment and utilization phase, which the company itself rated as unsatisfactory, detailing the project's total investment of $40.886 billion pesos between 2002 and 2005.
