Ecosophy as a Pedagogical Strategy for Solid Waste Management

Abstract

Written by the mayor of La Estrella, this article proposes approaching solid-waste management from a philosophical perspective grounded in Ecosophy, framing the paradigm "for great evils, thousands of small solutions" centered on individual generator responsibility. The author links waste management to a food-security program aimed at closing a sustainability cycle: recycling and composting source-separated organic matter, used for urban and rural agriculture, complemented by wastewater treatment and cultivating edible mushrooms from composted organic waste. The text describes the pilot experience carried out in La Estrella with 70 families from Sisbén levels 1 and 2 and students from urban schools, linked to a pedagogical program based on the seven principles of Ecosophy, aimed at helping children understand values of solidarity and cooperation through micro-garden planting.
