Food Autonomy: An Environmental Perspective

Abstract

Written by an agronomic engineer from Corporación La Ceiba, this article contrasts the different concepts used to address the global food problem: food security, food independence, and food sovereignty, examining the political and economic intentions underlying each within the context of globalization. The author presents a diagnosis of Colombia's situation, noting the decline in the food self-sufficiency index since 1991 due to rising imports and reduced agricultural spending. The text identifies four structural problems for the country's food security and presents Corporación La Ceiba's food autonomy proposal, centered on sustainable local self-sufficiency, fair market access, and participation in municipal agricultural policy decisions.
