Environmental Intervention for Sustainable Development from the Perspective of Social Ecosophy

Abstract

Written by the then-mayor of La Estrella, this article develops a philosophical reflection on environmental sustainability from the perspective of social ecosophy, proposing a biological model of social development based on the analogy between human physiological systems and urban ecosystems. The author argues that, just as the human body processes and filters water through a closed cycle, cities should apply similar models of water treatment and reuse to achieve sustainable cycles. The text interprets environmental phenomena such as global warming and pollution-induced asthma as pathologies of the planetary system, analogous to biological diseases, and proposes that solving environmental problems requires the same kind of diagnostic and therapeutic approach used in medicine, suggesting the creation of an environmental classroom to disseminate this pedagogical approach to sustainable development.
