Resumen
La dendrocronología es una ciencia dedicada a establecer la edad de los árboles a partir de los anillos de crecimiento, asumiendo que diversos procesos biológicos, físicos o antrópicos han determinado sus ritmos de incremento y estructura. Existen variadas aplicaciones de este campo de la biología, que van desde la reconstrucción climática y ambiental de la Tierra hasta la datación del momento en que una raíz atravesó la ropa o el esqueleto de un cadáver y la época en que este fue enterrado. Dado que las aplicaciones de la dendrocronología a las ciencias forenses han demostrado ser una herramienta exitosa en la resolución de crímenes policiacos y de casos relacionados con diversas actividades ilícitas, en el presente artículo se presentarán algunos ejemplos relevantes del empleo de esta ciencia para tales fines.
