Abstract
This article provides general information about the protected areas system and the role of Colombia's National Parks System. It discusses the importance of conserving these areas and the benefits they bring in terms of climate change adaptation and mitigation; in light of the existing pressures on their ecosystems, it mentions the action strategies being developed and presents the Early Implementation REDD+ project in the Colombian Amazon.
