Some Remarks on the Conservation of Our Forests

Abstract

Regional autonomous environmental authorities have not achieved the expected results from their oversight and monitoring actions, nor from projects aimed at conserving natural forests. Analyzing the reasons behind the disappearance of these ecosystems must be approached from three perspectives: market demand for certain species and timber volumes, the monetization of community labor as a means of survival, and pressure on land for non-forest uses such as mining and agricultural production. Addressing these problems requires joint action by the various stakeholders from a position of shared responsibility.
