Abstract

Development models built from a purely economistic perspective, particularly those based on natural resource exploitation, are leaving behind serious effects of pollution, deforestation, climate destabilization, and impoverishment of the population. In response, priority must be given to proposals focused on ecosystem protection that ensure decent livelihoods and economic stability for rural populations — farming, fishing, and forestry families — as a guarantee of their rights. With the commitment of all stakeholders involved, sustainable rural development may be possible, ensuring the continuity of life.
