Abstract
The multinational company AngloGold Ashanti Colombia is currently developing the La Colosa mining project in the municipality of Cajamarca, Tolima. The project sits on 515 hectares of the Central Forest Reserve established under the second law of 1959, of which 6.39 ha have been formally excluded. The preliminary, gold-exploration phase of the project is carried out on drilling platforms located in forest clearings; at the same time, a study of the forests is being conducted in terms of structure, function, and composition, in order to obtain baseline information for their proper management. In the medium and long term, the goal is to continue working toward sustainable management of the areas to be drilled in forest clearings, moving into the exploitation phase while contributing to ecosystem conservation in line with the restoration and compensation plans currently being formulated.
