For a Tree Not to Prevent Us From Seeing the Forest: Environmental Defense Grounded in a Philosophical Standing and a Constitutional Pedagogical Project

Abstract

To overcome the environmental crisis, it is necessary to set aside unilateral, subjective, and superficial ideologies in favor of a philosophical position grounded in life, based on the sociopolitical pedagogical project enshrined in the 1991 Constitution, defending a healthy environment as a dignifying paradigm for the exercise of politics. To this end, academia has a significant role to play in contributing research-based, interdisciplinary, historical, and pedagogical dimensions to the environmental movement. The defense of the environment is grounded in an epistemological stance toward ecosystems; in recognizing nature as the ontological substrate of human dignity; in axiological principles promoting the peaceful coexistence of humankind with biodiversity; and in recognizing the self through forces such as solidarity, tenderness, love, and democracy. This political pedagogy is what leads the community to assume itself as a constitutional power and defender of life and the ecosystem.
