Abstract

Written by Colombia's Minister of Mines and Energy, this article presents an assessment of Colombia's Public Mining Policy, structured around three lines: promoting the country as a destination for mining investment, efficient management of mineral resources, and improved productivity. The author documents results aimed at small-scale mining, ethnic groups, investors, and public institutions, including a 247% increase in royalty collection between 2004 and 2008 and strategic environmental assessments in 31 mining districts. The text concludes by reaffirming the government's commitment to modernized mining.
