Notes on Recognized Agrotechnological Management Systems in Colombia

Abstract

Written by an agronomic engineer, director of the Corporación Comité Pro Romeral, this article classifies agrotechnological management systems in Colombia based on Joseph Tosi's (1981) proposal. The text describes six categories: primitive or shifting-cultivation systems, extensive permanent or traditional systems, advanced artisanal systems, advanced mechanized systems, intensive enclosed systems (critically illustrated with the environmental collapse of Almería's greenhouses in Spain), and improved pasturelands. Each category's capitalization, technology, species diversity, and environmental sustainability characteristics are detailed, concluding with the need to map maximum land use according to existing management systems as a natural-resource conservation strategy.
