Abstract

Written by the Environmental Deputy Director of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area, this article presents a summary of the entity's environmental management during 2006-2007, grounded in principles of comprehensiveness, consensus-building, and equity. The author describes the strategic restructuring of the Environmental Sub-directorate into two subprocesses, and documents relevant management indicators: a 91% increase in pruning and felling requests, a 30% increase in tree transplants, and 8,264 institutional actions carried out. The text presents the strengthening of the Metropolitan Environmental Council, which achieved the signing of the Air Quality Pact, and documents the work of the Wildlife Care and Assessment Center, which between 2004 and 2007 relocated 7,685 individuals and released 1,167.
