Toward Antioquia's Environmental Sustainability

Abstract

Written by the Director of the DAMA of the Antioquia Governor's Office, this article presents departmental environmental management during 2007, structured around territorial equity and regional harmony among environmental authorities. The author documents actions on Antioquia's Caribbean coast, including the Integrated Management Plan for the Coastal Environmental Unit and erosion-control intervention at Punta del Rey, proposing the creation of a Ministry of the Sea. The text describes complementary projects such as the Marine Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of the Gulf of Urabá, the "Factories of Life" program for purchasing strategic land at water sources, and the consolidation of the Departmental Protected Areas System formalized in December 2007, closing with a technical proposal to transform solid-waste management.
