Abstract

Written by a forestry engineer from the Environmental Sub-directorate of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area (AMVA), this article presents the Master Plan for Urban Green Public Spaces formulated in 2006, amid the growing urbanization that concentrates 70% of Antioquia's population on less than 2% of the department's territory. The author documents the results of an urban flora inventory conducted in nine metropolitan municipalities, which recorded 428,830 plant individuals belonging to 368 species, of which only 30.7% are of native origin, and presents the region's green public space index per capita, of 5.9 m² per inhabitant, below the 9 m² standard recommended by the WHO. The text describes the structuring of a Metropolitan Urban Ecological Network made up of 43 corridors, designed to promote connectivity for urban bird life, and presents the Master Plan's five policy guidelines projected through 2020.
