A Coordinated Approach to Building a Solution to the Air Pollution Problem in the Aburrá Valley

Abstract

Written by a forestry technologist, this article presents the Pure Life Civic Campaign, promoted by Fundación Con Vida, aimed at reducing air pollution in the Aburrá Valley. The author documents that 58% of pollution comes from mobile sources, mainly diesel vehicles, and that fuel distributed in the region contains 4,500 parts per million of sulfur, against an international maximum of 30 ppm. The text describes the Air Watchdogs strategy and presents the 21 measures of the Pact for Improving Air Quality, in addition to detailing the tax benefits available for environmental investments under Colombia's Tax Statute.
