Endemic and Threatened Plants in Corantioquia's Jurisdiction

Abstract

Written by a forestry engineer from Corantioquia and an agronomic engineer, this article presents a preliminary inventory of endemic flowering plant species within Corantioquia's jurisdiction. The authors identified 262 species endemic to the department of Antioquia present within the jurisdiction, of which 163 are exclusive to this territory, highlighting the Orchidaceae family with 60 species. The text describes seven priority areas for the conservation of endemic species, documenting that 58 endemic species face some degree of threat according to IUCN criteria, noting that 21 of these species lack representation in the Regional System of Protected Areas, and concludes by recommending the creation of new reserves.
