Seed Biofactory at the Antioquia Technology Park

Abstract

Written by the Director of the Seed Biofactory at the Antioquia Technology Park, this article presents this biotechnology facility dedicated to the production and marketing of vitroplants using in vitro cloning technology, developed through technology transfer with Cuba's Plant Biotechnology Institute. The author describes the project's infrastructure, with a total investment of 6.2 billion pesos, an initial projected capacity of five million vitroplants annually, prioritizing species such as potato, banana, plantain, and floricultural species, plus agreements with universities for cacao, avocado, and heliconias. The text details the expected benefits: job creation in eastern Antioquia, diversification of national flora, and reduced vitroplant costs for small producers.
