Abstract
This article characterizes the main environmental services provided by the El Romeral Reserve to the Aburrá Valley. Based on functional categories proposed by Germán Márquez, it analyzes carbon fixation, water supply, food security, containment of urban expansion, scenic beauty, and biodiversity conservation. The author raises questions about the economic valuation of these services and the need for coordinated strategies to sustain them.
