Abstract
This article describes the Romeral Fault System, a geological structure extending more than 800 km across Colombia that separates the eastern continental terrane from the western oceanic terrane. First described by geologist Emil Grosse in 1926, the fault marks the foothills of the Central Cordillera. The author reviews the main geological studies on the system and its relevance for seismic hazard assessment, noting how its features are observable in the Cuchilla del Romeral Forest Reserve.
