Excerpt from the Book "Antioquia Antigua": A Summary of the Text by Norberto Vélez Escobar (Sílaba Editores, 2019)

Abstract

Eleven thousand years passed between the beginning of human settlement in the territories of central Antioquia and the founding of Santa Fe de Antioquia. Who were the people who preceded the society that developed after 1541, and how did they live? How much of these peoples, their communities, and their culture carried over into the new society? These are two of the questions historians will need to answer as they work toward building a history rooted in the millennia-old processes tied to the nature of the territory, and in the adaptations and responses these peoples made to its intervention and transformation; and, most importantly, in understanding how adapting to the constraints imposed by the territory helped shape the character of its ancient inhabitants.
