Abstract

The rise of research based on dendrochronology reflects the transformation this science is undergoing, whose foundations were laid in the last century by astronomer and scientist A. E. Douglass. These foundations sparked interest among scientists worldwide in how this science could be applied to other disciplines. Principles such as cross-dating and statistical analysis are essential for correctly marking trees' growth rings, whose accurate dating has become a powerful tool for confirming historical facts. In this regard, it has been used to verify the authenticity of musical instruments created by famous luthiers. The purpose of this manuscript is to present a couple of examples of how dendrochronology can confirm the creation date of antique stringed musical instruments, as well as the identity of their makers.
