Abstract
This article briefly presents the evolution of the concept of Ecosystem Services, from its earliest approaches in economics and ecology. It addresses the changes the concept has undergone, its use across multiple studies and assessments, and the emergence of methodological consensus that highlights the major challenges our society faces in mitigating the enormous harm being caused to ecosystems and the services they provide to all people. While it does not offer an exhaustive chronology of the concept's evolution, it does present several key milestones, tracing the path from Nature's Services to Ecosystem Services and Nature's Benefits to People, up to the most recent development: Nature's Contributions to People — seeking, at each stage, a more integrative concept encompassing different perspectives and knowledge systems.
